View Full Version : Lookin for a new CF Hood

Tyler

Well...long story short, I've got a blank check from a construction company to cover a new hood, paint on said hood and a new clear-bra for my STi. Let's just say he's lucky that' all he had to give me, so the blank check is pretty much limitless as far as those 3 things go, just need verifiable recepits.

I'm mainly concerned about fitmit, I know with CF hoods, there's always a little give and take, but Id like it to be clean. I haven't really seen any CF STi hoods yet, but I figure since it's on someone elses dollar, I can look at just about anything. Id like to get one with a scoop / rev cowl to use with my TMIC, but if I find one I really can't live without, I guess its a good excuse to get my FMIC and pipes :D.

I'll prolly want the left and right sides of the hood painted suby blue, I've always loved this look on CF hoods.

Open for suggestions and ideas! Thanks! :D

EDIT - Am I seeing things now? :)

2005 :D - Oh, and one that I can either add the bolt-on dampers too w/o drilling would be nice too, dunno how 'drillable' CF is after it's painted/clear coated. Ill get a link to the dampers in a sec.

EDIT #2 : Link HERE (https://www.staticxmotorsports.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=149&idproduct=117) to the dampers. I guess I should get the CF ones now, eh? :D

You like any of the above?

Tyler
10-26-2006, 08:08 PM
I like # 2 and 3 - I know the OEM type will work fine and look good...but I kinda like the 3rd one too :D. Any pics of that one on an sti? Id be concerned with the vent in the front though, dunno if thats gonna be dripping...where? lol. Ill have to take a look on my car, she sees tons of snow and rain, dont wanna be ruining anything. Also, have you guys seen any of these products in person? I've only ever seen R-Spec CF hoods on my buddys car.

Like I said before, worried about fitment and it lining up right with the rest of the car. :) Thanks for the fast replies!

I have seen the OEM type one in person it looks good, It was nice weave nice coating, all around nice.

Tyler
10-26-2006, 09:12 PM
Hmm ok then - I gues I need to photoshop some pics of my car or a blue sti w that hood painted

...or I guess I could just photoshop a CF middle area on my car lol :D

Tyler

Er...so THIS GUY (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/691787/2) has a CF hood w/ the stock scoop...and I think it looks terrible...:( Maybe its cuz of the stock scoop / gold wheels? I dunno...gonna see if I can find one w/ the painted sides. :( Mmmk - so the cf hoods officially don't look good on the blue subys, painted or not...wtf. Id need some black wheels to make it passable. And im not in the market for new wheels until spring, unless I get my BBS wheels painted...bah. wtf is this. I have someone elses money to spend on a new hood, and I dont like the way it looks...

Any other (non-cf) options?

I think you should tell the guy that the hood that you like is a smooth hood, therefore you need to get the FMIC and piping and he should pay for that too.
In reality, the CF on the blue, not a good match, I don't think even if the wheels were black. It looks great on the white, but blue?????????
I dunno what to tell you. Call me and I will tell you an idea I had at one point in time for my hood. Top Secret, can't share, I may still get it done some day on some car.

Tyler
10-27-2006, 07:03 PM
Ya it pretty much is fugly on the blue. Sadly. I hate it :( - I talked to the guy again today and convinced him to pay for a new paint job on the car after I get the hood too, because the new paint won't match the older 2 year old paint on the rest of the car...mwhahaa. If I really tried, im sure I could get him to pay for just about anything at this point...Like I said before, hes just happy Im not suing his ass off and sending his entire staff back over the boarder.

EDIT - Matt, whatd I tell you abut the phone? I don't have a good relationship with it, at all. You MIGHT be getting a call this weekend cuz Im off, but I wouldnt count on it :P

take the wing off and go simple reverse cowl hood:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v626/akalei/Luck%20E%20Duck%20WRX/?action=view&current=day11.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch3
i know its a bug eyed wrx but it just looks so good w/that hood and the sti would look awesome w/something like that and wingless.

edit: this guys a local btw. i think hes putting down, say 500 or so ponies.

I would love to see the STI hood scoop style on like the MS3. It seems like our TMIC would really work with it. I love CF hoods, as long as there is some part of it painted to match the car, imo.

That was my initial idea, but after too many photoshoppings, I just cant bring myself to like the cf on the suby blue...:(

I totally agree. Could paint the entire hood though.

no point then. the sti hood is already light as crap (what exactly is it made of, i wonder that everytime i close the hood on my dads car), cf probably wouldnt lessen weight that much. for the sti, a cf hood would be just for looks in my opinion. i really wish i could get a cf hood/trunk for my car then paint them...sleeeper, plus cf doesnt look all that great on black.

Raider

that's my issue with Cf panels. From a distance, they all look like junkyard black primered replacement panels. A little paint, like on Topher's MP3, really helps

Ummmmm wtf (http://www.iwsti.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71932) - So 2 months too late, I find a SEXY blue STi w/ a CF hood...bah

Okay, I'm out snooping the forums and saw this. Remember when you took apart your transformers, and tried to make "new" ones? Thats what the STi looks like. I understand a lot of that is functional, but reall?! It looks like a plastic extruder threw up on the front end. My cents.

Raider
06-30-2007, 02:30 PM
Yeah, but it has awd, tons of power, and tons of aftermarket out!

Mbr2658
06-30-2007, 02:34 PM
Yeah, but it still looks piece-meal. I like uniform...consistant...something that reminds me of the Vanquish S with (the new) 6 speed. This...well....its fast. So are NASCARS....dont get me started on that one....

Thats all true Raider, but I'm with dan, those little wing things on the front, honestly? Are those really necessary? Is an adjustable front lip necessary? Are 8 hood vents and a giant scoop all necessary? To each their own I guess :nah:

Mbr2658
06-30-2007, 02:37 PM
Yeah, a hood scoop. Look close. He has a Front mount....ummmm....am I missing something on that one?

Raider
06-30-2007, 02:42 PM
OK, not I get it. Thought you were referring to the white one. Someone needs a new hood I guess. TO each his own..

I think I've been going about this mod thing all wrong. See, I have, well, no of the crap on that Subie. Am I WAY behind by buying the CAI, engine mount and other functional things for my car? ()

Yeah, I went for a ride tonight (to see how the Rockblocker effedted the headlights, more on that in another thread.....) and I ran into a guy in a pimped Intrepid. A 2.7L Intrepid. Jesus. I couldnt stop laughing at him. He was pissed, but come on....an Intrepid? Get a neon or something, but NOT an Intrepid.
