whats up mazda people. i just bought my first mazda. an '07 liq. plat. gt ms6 to be exact. i couldn't be happier with it. questions; 1. did any of you tuner people have concerns with modding a system that has been designed for balance. i mean that the mazdaspeed people integrated the driveline to accomidate the torque produced by the chosen turbo... and so on. evthing was designed to work together under normal operating conditions. i'm pretty o.c. and afraid to screw up the "new" of my car by changing parts. on the other hand, there are little nuances i would like to change to my liking. 2. can anyone remember when they were in my position? 3. also, to any ms6 owners, what were your motivations for tuning your car? i.e. what did you dislike about it? any responses on this post of a newb square would be appreciated.

welcome to suf!
search in the ms6 topics for any questions is your best bet.
1 i mod a car when i buy them i cant help it.
2 what are you looking to modify? intake, exhaust is the best to start with. also look on streetunit.com under the ms6 it shows a guide on moding your ms6.
have fun with the car and post pics because if i dont ask other will...lol

thanks for the reply. i am not too comp savvy, and will be persecuted for not searching the forum for many of my questions. i just ask specific questions, and would like personal answers to what people didn't like about the ms6 off the lot. i am on the fence about modding my car, and would love to hear what people have to say. it will take time, but i will post pictures of my car. i think it is just a beautiful car to look at. i'm sure that there are plenty of pics of cars just like mine, but i will figure it out anyway. thanks again.

Welcome to SUF. :D For any questions you have, after 10 posts you can PM Cullen or Chef.
Welcome to the forums... I too was in your position, but have started with a few small things to fix my little quarks with the car. You shouldn't worry about being persecuted for not searching on this forum, because we are all here to help! Feel free to keep the questions flowing! By the way, don't forget to post the pics of your MS6 when you can

well, i don't like the lag in turbo prior to 3k. i would like to hear the sweet "spsseoow" sound from a better bov. it also seems that sometimes 100% pedal has a slower throttle response than 50%. i have since figured out how to search the forum, but wanted to answer your question. thanks for the reply.
Ya no one really likes turbo lag... to me it isn't that bad, because unless you are in 1st, you can always downshift to take care of not having boost.

for 2nr. good point. 1st gear is exactly where the lag bugs me. that could be too low of revs before dumping the clutch. it seems that the turbo spools better in higher gears, but that is probably just gear ratios. it's my first decent car, so maybe too many years of racing games have spoiled me. thanks again to all for the welcomes and replies. this forum seems pretty cool. on others, i would post a sincere question, and within seconds i would be verbally face humped by a 15 yr old's computer alter ego.
Well, something that would be a little less harsh on your tranny would be revving to about 4500-5000 rpms, and slip the clutch while you floor the gas pedal... plus I have had way better results this way. And thanks for the laugh about the 15 year old's ego thing... lol

cool thanks. i kinda wanna get my first oil change before i rev up too much. prolly monday. i'll try it though. cool picture too. it kinda makes me wanna paint my car flat black.

pretty 'effin cool picture anyway. exhaust question. are there any performance exhaust systems that do not make your car loud? i want the benefits of aftermarket, without making my mods obvious. the sleeper aspect of the ms6 was a huge reason that i bought one. i wanna be fast, but not look or sound fast.
Ummm it depends on what you are looking for. If you are talking about not being any louder then stock, I would say there aren't any chances of that. But, the best bet would be to go with a test pipe. Plus with that it is a quick install and easily removable. But one exhaust that is pretty loud from what I understand is the CP-E single exhaust. But they are making a dual set-up right now. I want to say that the GHL isn't loud with the resonator pipe, but am not sure. Another thing would be to get a new top mount intercooler... they have some good gains, and are only seen when the hood is popped.
sliver7
11-25-2007, 01:55 AM
i will research the test pipe and intercooler. thanks. i think i have watched every youtube ms6 video, and just don't want my car to be that loud. i have every car imaginable already trying to race me on the freeway. besides, if your car is loud, how are you supposed to sneak up on your old lady cheating on you with the mail man?
coast into the driveway with the car off... lol

true. you know when my first kid popped out 5 and a half feet tall with a red afro and freckles, i knew something was up. i had all three of them taken care of if you know what i'm saying. totally kidding. i just don't want my car loud. i think harleys are obnoxious. i would rather my car hauls grass and doesn't sound like it.
I see where you are coming from... I don't think the test pipe on the stock exhaust would be too much louder though. I'll let ya know in a couple of weeks if you haven't come accross one. lol

no intake required... install is only 4 bolts I believe

plus the other good thing about the test pipe, is the cost... it's pretty cheap

i never really noticed mazdas until i accidently came across a speed6 on the main web site. it was.... true love to say the least. i had been looking at new cars for awhile, and they're all so effin ugly these days. the ones that i think look good are 50k and up. i would like to lower the back end of mine if i could change anything. i like cars to sit level, but the rear wheels would suck up into the wells and look funny so.... i can live with it. i'm also slightly pissed that on nfs pro street they have an ms3 and not a 6. would have been cool to see how diff body kits and rims would look on one.
lol I just bought the game yesterday
I have a thread with some rim photoshopping let me find it

MS6 is a great car. Balance shmalance. Theres really no such thing. The MS6 is made to go fast. And it can do so with very little money. I was never worried about messing the car up. Just what the dealer might say. So take care and welcome to the forum. Good luck. We are here to help. Get the intake first then get exhaust. Then do the test pipe. Breathe in and breathe out.

yeah i din't see that one coming (door). your car looks nice. i'm not so sure about the rims though, but thats just me. does it ride rough sitting that low? did lowering it eliminate a considerable amount of body roll?
moditfromday1
11-25-2007, 04:26 PM
i have a 0 body roll im actually on air suspension...lol i drive it about 1" lower than stock then when i want it to handle i throw in 1230-145 psi in front and 60-70psi in the rear and it handles soo good.
but with the body roll i suggest you get rear tightened up first thats where i felt it being squashy the most when i was stock. and i suggest some springs. but all in all you gotta decide performe(hp) or poerformance(handling)
the wheels are the only ones i liked that didnt have rivets, and were black with polished lip. and they are wider and lighter than stock plus i payed 1200 for all 4 wheels and tires... lol main key was black with polished lip to match the paint

cool air ride huh? so when you park, you can slam it like ice cube's '64 in boyz in the hood? i always wanted to do that. do you have more pics of your car that you would be willing to show me? thanks for the reply also. i beleive you were the first to reply as well as suggest i post pics asap.

11-25-2007, 06:41 PM
reason i replied post pics is because if i didnt i know 2nr would have done it before me. lol i have to beat him at something!
it gets 1/4 off the ground the tires botom out on the fender so it cannot go any lower but yes i can lower it as far as i can usually i do to hear the wtf???? how can anyone drive like that?lol

get your mind set on one thing at a time like exhaust that will help you pull faster and longer into the redline.
your intake well it adds some hp but sounds great with a bov.
or start with handling get the rear tightened up with some strut bars etc... then throw some springs in the car.
any questions feel free to ask i will do my best to help out but i will also do my best to joke around...lol
sliver7
11-25-2007, 10:04 PM
there will be no joking!!! i was looking up engine mount threads. does the SU engine mount eliminate the rough shift from first to second, then 2nd to third? how much does it affect vibration at idle?
btw 2nr dont have pics he copies them from mazda websites...lol j/k
actually my cars usually end up on mazda sites there buddy...lol ya I have pics in the H&R spring thread, and also those pics for the H&R product details on SU's site too:p

vibrations go away after a week or so but been known to drop some times in the 1/4 and smoother shifts for sure.

you said exhaust would help to pull faster and longer into redline. i don't quite understand what that means. exhaust will pull your rpms faster through redline, causing the need to shift sooner. i think i get that. what do you mean by longer though?

What up!!! Welcome to the Party:party:
first off..welcome!
nice to see another speed6 in AZ! :D (im down south in tucson)
second, i have the SU motor mount installed in my ms6, and, yes there is increased vibration, but i didnt get this car to baby it..it lessens a bit after a few thousand miles (about 2k i noticed a difference..that, or i got used to it)...im getting an exhaust put on soon (this weekend more than likely)
also, what part of phoenix are you from? im part of the AZMazdaClub (http://www.azmazdaclub.com), we have a few guys with ms6's, one guy has a (nearly) stock ms6 thats lowered and with the GHL exhaust (he was the test puppy) by the username of Hund on there...depending on what part of phx you are in, and whatever your schedule looks like, you can probably meet up with him/come meet a couple members at one of our events and you can hear an exhaust on an ms6 in person..we do stuff almost every weekend--you can maybe make up your mind about an exhaust...videos dont do the exhausts on these cars justice, IMO....but by the sound of things, you want to keep the exhaust sounding somewhat stock, so i would say +1 on a SU test pipe...gives you some extra ponies, and just a little bit of a deeper exhaust tone, not much, but it is noticeable...highly quiet than an exhaust.
i travel to phx every so often about once or twice a month actually to meet up with everyone in the club.
the mods are in my sig that i have right now. if you have any other Q's, let me know!
oh, and i think what moditfromday1 was trying to say was it will make you go FASTER to redline AND boost will hold LONGER into redline, instead of dropping off around 5k...if that makes sense.

no problem...check out azmazdaclub.com we are having our monthly meeting this weekend up in mesa if you arent busy...some ms6's will be there...not sure just yet if im going, but i did rsvp.

that ms6 would be sean/hund's....no problem have fun, we literally have something happening every weekend,....the majority of the club lives in phx, and they are spread out all over....hope to hear from you.

haha i cant remember how long and how many different ways he wanted to paint his rims..it was probably half a year...he finally settled on that paint scheme...as far as mine, im always changing something in between pictures but heres a few teasers of mine within the past 4 months timeframe, from past to most current:
