So between the fact that I feel like a little ***** and that Im tired of doing tranny flushs every 30k I want to swap my tranny. Ideas as to where I might begin? I dont think I want to junkyard it as a tranny is an expensive thing to fix and I only want to do it once......(for a while atleast)

my warranty is up in 30k so I have sometime to shop around and dont really want to do it before the warranty is up.

So here is what Im trying to figure out......

1. what shops are the best to hit up? I dont mind spending the money for quality work. I just want to make sure once it is done that it is all done....

2. being auto I will need another ECU as it will want to fuel the car based on the gas pedal pressure and wont account for the clutching correct? I would image the ECU would need to go but idk not like Ive done this before.

3. Im going to need a new clutch, clutch lines, clutch master cyc, new gas and break pedal, and a 3rd whole in the fire wall. Well Im doing the swap would you upgrade the clutch, flywheel, ECT.... short throw shifter def is a must what else might u upgrade at the same time.

4. would you go with a mazda OEM tranny or would you just go to a tranny shop and have them do it with one of theirs? like I said Im not sure where to go with this so Im planning ahead.

lastly, I wish my parents would have allowed me to get a manual in the first place but it was alot of BS and o well something is way better than nothing and Ive fallen inlove with it so replacing it really isnt an option(plus matt is having a hell of a time selling his).

ideas, help, directions....... Im kind of going in this only knowing so much and all input would be appreciated.

this is a really hard decision.....if i was really going to change trans units on a newer car im not so sure it wouldnt work out cheaper to just trade the car in on what you want...a trans change on a newer car is nothing like it used to be before the ecu started controlling everything.....i would first try to price everything and see what the total cost of the swap would be and go from there....

I am not sure who can help you, but I have heard of guys going to manual transmission on their P5's. Every one of them said not to do it. It was several full days of work themselves, and a lot of money for every component needed. now add some $ for it being a 6. It might be easier and cheaper to sell it and get a manual.

If course, you do know you need to change the fluid every 30K with a manual as well, right?

yeah...... you can get away with a few extra miles..... at 30k mine looked like poop brown. absolutely rediculous.....

Yeah, if only I could get a YELLOW 6 that would be a simple trade in and go but they are nearlly impossible to find. they were only produced in 03 and yeah I could get another color but....... then I would probably buy a trans Am instead.....

Im sure it would be more cost effective to sell it and buy a Manual..... but doing a little research on it before I just dump it is def worth the time. I could buy matts orange 6 with the 5 speed too, but I think if I were to dump it then I would want something a whole lot faster. little bro having the Mach 1 is killing me little by little each day. though for what he invests in gas......

The whole swap takes about 3 hours....start by removing the radiator cap....then buy a new car...and install in the reverse order. :D

^^ lol!

Seriously, it is a huge endeavor, and if you really want a 5 speed, I would go buy a used one. Of course, Matt's 6 is just plain killer!!
