Raider
09-26-2006, 09:24 PM
the latest is, we all gotta get in one bighappy chat with promazda on where we are going to have it, when, and get the place reserve. I have seen some fairgrounds that looked pretty sweet. Thisis also supposed to be a wa for us to get out of thecars and get to knwo each other. with stuff to do Friday night, saturday after the meet, and maybe even sunday. Hotel accomodations can be set (coordinated, not freakin paid for!!) up for all of us at the same place, according to promazda. Theyhave set up stuff like this befor,e and think the experience will help to put this on.
At least we have the sponsorship part taken care of!!
Let's try to get this done soon.

The meet will be in January. I talked to Lara. she will be heading up the promazda aspect of setting up the meet. There will be a big chat next week, so we should have a location set very soon.

Raider
09-28-2006, 08:18 AM
Yes. We will pick a spot, verify it is available, and reserve it if available. Thinking of the weekend of the 20th, but we need to make sure there is a location to be reserved.

I spoke with Chad today, the GM at Classic Mazda. He verbally told me he definately wants associated with the Palooza. He also may have a location option too. The Hollars (owners of Classic and many other dealerships) have a dealership/lot that is vacant in Orlando. I will know this week if its a location option for us. I think we need a new thread for the list of attendees. I am talking to O-Rock (radio station) and Mazda USA.
We will also need assistance in making this event successful. If anyone would like to step forward, let one of the SU Staff know. Thanks!
You know I am in always....!
Raider
09-30-2006, 10:40 PM
Of course! I know Vero Beach has a few places, St Lucie County Fairgrounds, too. A big empty lot sounds ok, but we need to make sure there is room for stuff to do, so grass would be nice, for flag football as already planned.
Let's nail down the list, and get a place set, then pop a registration thread up after we know the place.

That would be one hell of a trip and would be best for the spring/summer time. I hit the dragon this year and it is a nasty road. Any beginning drivers or billy Bad A$$es should not go; it a respect the road or loose kind of thing.
Fontana is awesome and would be one hell of a meet.

That lot is kinda small though isnt it? They mostly use the parking garages for the games dont they? I mean its right in the middle of downtown, but I guess there was enough room for that x-games thing they did. Dolphin Stadium is in the middle of no where and theres a lot more room. You know who has a lot of parking room? Daytona, but there busy this time of year.

Ok, I only ask because normally we have everything planned out months in advance. We're talking about a month or so here to get things organized.
I don't see why it's so hard to find a place. If you wait too long (especially around the holidays), no one will be able to attend because it will be too short of notice to take time off from work and other commitments.

This is going to be a great meet. It is in Orlando, so mark calenders. This is not as big as summer, but it will be fun. Events throughout the day to make it so we can all get to know each other more, a SMALL show with a few awards (We need to represent, so wash your ****ing car), BBQ, etc. It is gonna be a blast. We also plan to have events Saturday night, so plan to stick around for even more fun!

meet is open to everyone, of course! I need to, or maybe another admin can, update post#1, as judging will be done by the people, not any group of poor people who get **** on if someone's car does not win. We will break down classes soon. But an FYI. I expect people who enter the show to clean their car. We do a lot to put these meets on the map. If you want to enter, throw out the 200 bags of trash in the back seat, eew!
The show will have awards, and will be sorted.

Well we thought we might get a whole feild from Jay Blanchard Park, but it turned out that we were only getting parking lots capable of about 40 cars. This new location will hold all the cars we need it to, plus we get 3 pavilions, vollyball courts, basically the whole back end of this park. And the meet is still located in "central" Florida, so as far as people's caravans, it shouldn't affect them much if at all. We just had to do it!

i didnt like the fact at like the last meet(summer) you didnt really know the people you were talking to or seeing form the forums. like at the gate or whatever there should be someone who gives you a "hi my name is, tengoestetempo-eric" kind of kind you know, either he will write it down or yourself. just so you can know what forum memebers your talking to if you dont already know who they are.

we had name tags at the winterpalooza last year, and it worked fantastic! We did bring them to the summer meet, but the problem was, it was so hot, the tags did not stick, then when it rained, everyone was wet. We did intend for that, because like you said, it is tough to know who is who.
We will have name tags though at the winter meet, fear not!

BUMP!
Here is the car show information! This is 100% PEOPLE'S CHOICE! Everyone who comes to the show will be able to vote for the following, there will be no official judges, but I (RaiderMS3) may help if there are any questions
There will be the top 10 cars a general placement in the Top 10 cars at the show.
After the top 10 get their awards, they will bring their cars forward, and by the sound of the crowd, the Best in Show Award is then handed to the one with the most applause. A Tie breaker may be done if needed, but let's worry about that at the show!
We will also have the following awards!
Best interior
Best engine
Lowest Tread (It's a tradition. Looking for the ones that are entirely bald!)
Furthest distance-Will have all cars that show enter where they drove from to the meet, and how many miles. Furthest wins.
Raider

Fresh, can you post the award info on the rotary forum? If they do not show up, they have zero chance to win. It really bugs me that they have a negative attitude about meeting up with other car enthusiasts and are upset about a $12 trophy that was part of a FREE show.
Anyway, those who show up, I am happy to meet up with.

We knew starting the winter meet that the show is not going to be the biggest part of the meet.
Getting people together to get to know each other is something that has been tough at the meets. Realizing most people were focused so much on their car, many people never socialized. The winter meet last year did not have trophies wither, only certificates, and we did not have a lot of them, either. So a top 10 total and the other awards is what we will be having at the winter meet. AND, it is all judged by the attendees, so any complaints about judging are null and void. The team setting up the event knew right off the bat, that the show needed to be less of a focus, and meeting people more important. That is the goal we are striving for. That, and checking out everyone's cool ride!

ok will we be doing best interior and best engine for each model of mazda or is it open to all entrys cuz they will be like "blah its mostly gonna be protege guys there so nah nah nah nah nahhh wer not gonna win."ithink you should make it simple and say best interior best exterior and best engine for each model. just to make everyone happy. :)

It was a tough decision for us to cut back the show. It has been tedious and took up the entire day for the last 2 events. At both shows I personally never even had time to meet 90% of the people who came, because I was dealing with the show. In fact, anyone who was an organizer of past events will agree that this is thebest way to go.
1 and 1 only best interior. We only had 1 best interior at the other shows, judged by the people who come to the event. If we had it for every make and model, It would take all day to calculate the winners. No mater what we do, some people will be unhappy with the show. The show is a small aspect of the meet. This way, we can quickly calculate the entries, give awards, and move on with the day.
So the top 10 and the other few awards are it. Again, the show is not the main thing we want people to come to these events. It is about meeting, hanging out, and getting to know other enthusiasts. Pure and simple.

Why bother catering to them? They are all idiots and single minded over there. Plus you’re just asking for the drama by inviting them. I am a member of that forum and 75% of the threads in the SE section contain drama. Let them burn and if they want to come they will. Plus I am sure they are waiting for their chance to even the score with me ;)

I met some good people before from that forum. There was a big guy with a yellow RX-8 that he has just got who came to the Ocala 2006 meet. Saw him again at the summer show, and it was all tricked out. The red one with the flames painted on the engine cover was sweet too, and she won!
The wole rotary not winning came when they refused to pop their engines to be judged, and numerically got a 0 for them, eliminating the cars from best in show.
anyways, it is a dead subject. The ones that want to come and meet other people are the ones I want to meet up with.

That was the point in this awards system, keep the focus on the people and the comradory with other car people, not who got screwed at the end of the day. As far as food I will check into but I believe there will be BBQ grills there. Maybe we should start a thread of who brings what. What we did at a DSM meet I went to is someone started the grill and everyone cooked their own stuff as far as chicken, burgers, etc and a few diff people brought potato salad, macaroni salad, etc and everyone shared that stuff. I will get with the powers that be and all that are involved with the planning and get a definitive answer and start a thread from there.

Because of the sheer amount of people coming, and how we did not mention it, that people know we are not feeding them. We cannot afford to do that for a free meet.
I will edit the first posts here to state no food provided, but BBQ pits will be at the park. Coal and lighter fluid and grilling tools are all that will be needed to grill and people will be set.

Much better facilities that as Summerpalooza. 3 pavilions with one big enough to probably fit everybody, full restrooms, huge playground if anyone is bringing kids or want to act like a kid. There are plenty of trash cans so we can't leave any messes when we leave. There are a couple of small grills and water fountains, and 1 huge friggin grill, Chef will be in love. apparently, some people are planning on actually arriving at the meet at 11 AM? FYI, Most shows start judging at 10 am, and we plan to start the meet at 9 am, and letting people vote.
Late arrivals were a problem with summerpalooza. We had so many late-comers, we did not get detailed judging done before it began to rain, and had to scramble to judge after. We all know that ended up like a turd in a punchbowl.
What we can do, is just modify the people's judging then. We need a while to tally the votes, and if people roll in for lunch, not much time. Perhaps people can vote for the top 3 cars they like and we can go from there, and we can cut off new entries at a certain time, too, so attendees can have a decent chance to look at all the cars.

tampa caravan is still leaving hardees by 9am Carla....those two are just dropping out.
Raider the idea 2 judge the top 3 cars is a better idea.....but maybe the top 5 cars should be judges by the people.....and maybe judging should start at noon, that way any cars that wish to participate in the people judging have to arrive by 12 noon or they are SOL....and end judging and by 1:30pm....and then have all the votes tallied that way awards can be given out around 3pm....
just food for thought that way the judging can have a more organized time frame.
Raider
01-06-2007, 09:24 PM
We are not having anyone but attendees judge. We will set a cut off point soon, but why show up 3 hours late to a meet that starts at 9. By noon, people will be eating, then too full to do sports. So hopefully people will just show up closer to the start of the meet. If not, oh well.
no worries though, people will come, and if they come late, that is up to them. I will be there early to help set up, like always. :)

My vole is if you aren't there by 11:30, you don't quailify for any show trophies. The "show" is a very small part of the meet. Just a little something to make it fun, not to stress over. There is sports, raffles, food etc, not just a "show". Be there at 9 or be there at 12. Who cares. I will be there early as hell so that we can enjoy the entire day. We need not stress the little stuff and move on. I mean there are people getting bent out of shape because other people think like I do and want to get there early and not be part of a caraven that shows up halfway through the day. Sorry just my $.02.

Well, wife's CX-7 might not make it. We initially thought it was rebar, but it looks like a punk keyed it. Filed claim, dropping off for paint, then PDR on passenger door, then will hope it is ready for the meet.

The scratch on the driver's door happened tonight. I was actually getting PDR tomorrow on the passenger rear door ding. Sucks. Should hopefully have it for the meet to install the BOV.

Classic Mazda should have a presence at WinterPalooza. Whether or not they will be selling cars right at the meet is up in the air. I know they will be there to be able to talk and go over basic information to set up the sale and also probably talk about pricing. I am not sure if they are bringing any vehicles to the meet yet.

MS3's are usually sold before they hit the port of Jacksonville. I know, because both Boosted 3 and I bought ours off the same boat, both from Classic. If they want to check out MS3's, this meet is the place. Honestly, the first time I ever drove one, was when I left the dealership. MY MS3 was the first one I even saw in person. yes, crazy thing to do, but boy, I had no idea it was gonna be this fun.
