Ren's Update Thread

seems like i'm always fixing/changing/adding something to my car so i figure i'll make a thread rather then flaming the boards.. aside from the calipers and the sub and the w/w fluid holder here's what i did today.


previously only my dome light was an L.E.D. the rest were just blue 194 bulbs. After I pulled them out like 2 of the 4 were burned.
I now have a FULL L.E.D Interior. I took the best pics I could get. Also included one of my instrument panel. I can set it to show white with red lettering or blue with red lettering and I always leave it on blue!

sweet! i was having a hard time finding the 194 sized blue l.e.d's i was about to give up and go purple lol but they were hiding!

haha sweet, where did you get them from? I got mine from autolumination.com they are pretty cheap..im planning on getting some LED reverse and brake lights soon and maybe turn signal too. all together should cost around 40-50$

That's when i get time to go but I have to make sure it's o.k. to do it first i know not to get my air filter wet

You would have to have the car running and shove the water nozzle up into the grill to even come close to doing that. Or you would have to take the cover off the top and spray it down.

There's virtually no chance of getting water into your intake unless you want to (or you're a complete idiot).

Nothing. Price checking. He helped me out when i had a cobalt, he said he used to give away the stickers, but too many kids were putting them on ****ty cars and he didn't want his name on crap. But told me he would love to sell me a set so i got a set.

So, I went to autozone and picked up a can of dark blue metallic import paint spray can. I went ahead and repainted the ring around my a/c vents and figured out how to take my shifting knob out and re-did that. You can tell the before and after color when you look at the brake button and the shifting knob. You can also see my birthday present, my radar detector and oh...I went ahead and figured out how the rotary accents come out of the seats!!!! they snap in and out so i took those out and painted them IT TURNED OUT NICE!

Useasdirected-I changed the color as of today, the dark was just a test i didn't like it. I have used several coats so dont' worry. I didn't paint anything inside my car i pulled it all out. The only thing I can't pull out is my brake handle. So no I haven't attempted to grow balls and spray paint that yet for fear of spraying my car or something.

I like the second blue much better, but the other one wasn't bad either. The only problem I find with painted knobs is that if you wear rings or anything they scratch up easy.

it literally took all day just to get these suckers on but we did it! I love how it turned out. I also saw on another rx8 that they painted (where i have rust) the same color as their calipers so i went ahead and did it on the front realize didn't like how it turned out (shrugs) so i left the back alone anywheres here's a pic.

Wow that looks good and so do the calipers. Any tips for doing the suspension. I'm puting ing my shocks this weekend. Also let me know if you have any problems with your pullys. I've always been afraid of that on any car. So what's next on the list?

well i don't know about shocks because the front springs i got from my friend had his stock shocks so we just took those out and popped those in but to get them out you have to unbolt all the "A" arms and everything around it. I still have to install the pulleys so ill let you know how that goes. I'm going to be saving up for a header and the clear corners.

On cardomain i met a guy with the same color rx8 he borrowed some of my ideas and in turn i borrowed his. But why..why is it ME who can't paint worth a dime? So while his interior came out great...mine came out not so great and i was literally painting...5 hours straight without a break..

the mazda symbol are the rear calipers. I did paint the rust and don't worry about the over painting i allready took that off after i took the pics. hope everyone likes them!! they turned out great!

I'd hate to see your RX8 lose another engine so I figured I'd let you know. There's a new PCM reflash for the 8 that's covered under warranty.

It corrects certain issues the 13B-MSP has been having operating under extreme ambient heat (aka Tucson summer). It should fix rough idle at stops and keep your compression from going to ****.

You should get this done soon before summer gets here. Just call JC and take your car in. It only takes 1 1/2 hours to get it done.

It won't, the pulleys and intake have nothing to do with the PCM. This is a fix from Mazda because of all the blown motors out here in the desert.

allright. so what do i need to tell them exactly just call and make an appt and tell them about the 13b recall?? and what exactly do they fix?

Tell them that you heard about the PCM recall for the RX-8. They'll check your VIN to make sure you qualify and you just take it in. It only takes an hour for them to re-flash it.

I finally got time to call them, and there's no recalls for my car, but i'm taking it in for my idiling issue and the fact that on normal driving i notice my clutch will stick and it's not until it smells that i realize it's been sticking and i literally have to stomp on it to get it to unstick.

The reflash is supposed to help with the idling issues.

yeah i told them about it, they said my car had no recalls or reflashes or anything but i'll bring that up again when i take it in.

ok took her in they did find the reflash code so they are going to reflash her and check her out.

They did the reflash and she seems to drive alot smoother, the idle still seems a bit rough, i'm not sure how that can be fixed. I go back in a week, 'cause i had them order a new cd player whenever i turned the heat on my cd's would stick in this one.
i also forgot to talk about the clutch so when i take her back i'll have to have them look at it.

i'm hoping i really really want the mazdaspeed kit, and not necessarily the carbon fiber hood or spoiler but i want the mazdaspeed spoiler which is the same color as my car only raised up a little higher. It would be cool to look like that hehe. need fog lights too and i have clear corners on the way!

Every rotary i've had you have to rev. I launched @ 5500. Very bad wheel hop before I got adjustable shocks. That helped. I ordered the "ebay" pulley. They just got to my house. Did you use the same belt or have to buy a shorter one?

the pulleys i got came with a new belt so i used that. actually the crank pulley came with a new belt.

It was my FIRST TIME in a MANUAL at the track. This is my first RWD as well. I kept SPINNING off the line.

I was doing consistant 90mph all day but 2.3-2.6 60' give me a break.

No biggie, just practice, practice, practice. The first couple of times I went down the track in the speed, I couldn't get better then a 2.5 60' time, and maybe 14.6 ET. This year I got it down to a 2 sec 60' and a 13.5 @ 105

Yeah. Just practice. Also make sure your car is in good shape. Bad plugs messed up my time bad. It's awesome your tryin!

wont help since its still so hot out...wait til it gets cooler.

besides...you have to take the highway anyway to get to the track, you know the engine runs hot as **** as soon as you turn it off, and dont hot lap it either, give it some cool down time.

i was going in august because that's when they do saturday night racing i work on friday nights...it should cool down a little at night. My car actually doesn't get that hot. But i see what you're saying I'll just have to see how it goes in august.
