Hello, Have a '02 protege and a '07 CX7 right now. Looking to do some things to the protege. My brother is an avis subie guy and I am looking to do some small performance upgrades on the protege. Maybe suspension and a shift kit. Would appreciate any help (even installs).

Hello, fellow CX-7 owner!

Wife and I got a GT in galaxy gray. Love that thing. e did improve our mileage to 24 mpg on the freeway with the K&N filter. also switched to synthetic at the same time, but I really think the filter had a big part in it gains.

Welcome to the forums, and hit me up if you have any questions or anything!

Sweet thanks for the help. What would you recommend I start with on the protege? Looking mostly for performance mods.

I started with removing the 20 lbs of plastic crap and got an intake for it. Then a Racing Beat cat-back exhaust. A header will give you the most power gains short of going turbo.

I wrote up a pretty cool intro for protege owners, check this out!

Yeah intake and exhaust are usually a good place to start

Thanks for the link. Yeah we have Kumho tires already and they make a big difference. Would like to do the short shifter first followed by maybe a CAI and some suspension stuff. Already use Mobil 1 and mobil filter (advanced auto parts had a sale a couple of weeks ago). Streetunit.com looks good for the parts!

I am interested, keep posted, especially if you need a tester!

Shifters are really up to what you personally like. I got the B&M because I am tall. But there are many brands out there. Just make sure you get a weighted knob.

Just been busy with work. Cannot decide what to do. My brother has a couple of subaru's with the short shifter and I think that is what I want to do first. Then down the road maybe a CAI. Is it worth doing this on a 80K protege? OUrs is basically all highway miles. Great car especailly for the highway as when I go to work I have to drive from deltona to West Palm beach (2:40) but its only 2x a month. This was the short shifter I was looking at, one because it comes with the bushings and two they have the instructions online and I looked them over already. This would be my first "real job" on the car other than basic maintence. Just a little nervous.

This was the kit if anyone has opinions on it.

Which TWM? They don't list one for the MS3 yet, they do have one for MS6 (the one will multi-stages, very cool) and the Mazda3... do you happen to know the part #? Also, are their shifter boots compatible with the MS3? Any info helps... thanks. Oh, any pics?

Protege, see post #1. Yes, short shifter will be a good mod to do. No more worries about the shift knob hitting drinks in the cup holder.

Yeah the one i was taking about was for a '02 protege. They have shifter boots and and other stuff as well but I understand that the OEM knob and boot can still be used. At least that was what TWM was saying. If there is anyone in the Deltona area with experience with this please let me know. I have been looking over the instructions and looks OK but would like to have a little help if possible. This is my first real "mod job".
