The Scion xD is a subcompact car introduced by Japanese automaker Scion for the 2008 model year. It is a five-door hatchback slated to replace the xA. The Scion XD and the second generation XB were first shown to the public on February 8, 2007 at the Chicago Auto Show
Features:
The vehicle will come standard with power locks, mirrors, and windows, and 16" wheels and tires. The vehicle will have ABS, cruise control, a tire pressure monitoring system and side curtain air bags as standard features. The only factory installed option will be Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRAC).
For 2008 a choice from three new head units will be available. All sound systems feature six speakers and standard iPod connectivity. The base head unit has MP3, WMA, and AAC CD compatibility, and Scion's SSP equalizer presets. The Premium head unit features a small LCD that can display pictures and movies downloaded from Pioneer's website in addition to the features on the base unit. A navigation system will also be available. The SNS 100 system can play DVD movies in addition to GPS functionality and the features of the base system, aside from the backlit color choices. The xD is the first mainstream subcompact in the U.S. to be available with a OEM navigation system and will be the cheapest car to offer an OEM navigation system.
Engines:
The front-wheel-drive xD will come with the 2ZR-FE DOHC 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine with dual VVT-i that makes 128 bhp (95 kW) and 125 lb·ft (169 N·m) of torque. It can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. The 2008 EPA mileage is estimated at 26 city 31 highway.
Toyota Yaris and Ractis:
The xD is a Toyota Ractis. It is essentially a mildly elongated five-door Toyota Vitz, marketed as the three door Yaris in the US. Thus, the five-door Yaris was not offered in the U.S. market when the three-door and sedan were launched. The xD features the same sliding and reclining rear seat that is optional on the Yaris three-door. Unlike the Yaris, however, the xD's instrument gauges are located behind the steering wheel as opposed to being centered atop the dashboard.
