So my car's been in the shop for over a month. I finally gave up on the original shop I took it to and moved it to Diamond (who, as it turns out, will work on a Mazdaspeed car as long as it's not under Mazda's warranty ).

I just got off the phone with Diamond and they're estimating it will be done by the end of next week. All but a couple of hoses will be covered under the extended warranty so I'll be out $100 or so, max (much, much better than the original $500-$600 estimate). Finally, the end is in sight!

how much longer will you be pimpin the minivan done any burn outs in it yet? They said it would probably be done Wednesday or Thursday of next week. Nope, no burnouts. :) It's my dad's van so I'd rather not trash it. Besides, I think it still has the oem tires on it, which aren't likely to survive any kind of abuse.

what happened to your car in the first place?Short version: It was making some weird hissing sounds and hitting fuel cut a lot. The first shop I took it to couldn't bring themselves to actually work on the car any beyond the initial diagnosis.

Long version: The original problem was a weird hissing sound coming from the engine when it was cold. That problem kept getting continually worse but I ignored it for a while, then tried a few things. It never really got 100% resolved. Anyway, when it started getting cold, I started hitting fuel cut any time I accelerated much. After that almost got me in a wreck a couple times, I took it to a shop I'd been told was great w/ forced induction. He had a look at it and found that the wastegate actuator had failed, along with a few other problems.

And that's basically how it stayed for over a month. The guy always seemed to have better things to do than work on my car. After hearing "it's first on my list, I'm starting on it tomorrow" one too many times, I gave up and took it to Diamond Mazda.
