When you take the top out of the gas tank under the rear seats of the P5 does it have a gasket, I would be destorying opening it up? I want to get in there and check the sock over the fuel pump, to see if it is nasty dirty.

There should be a gasket, but it shouldn't necessarily be destroyed when you open it up, just be careful and gentle.

Any idea how to clean the sock in the event it is dirty?

Honestly I havent been into the fuel system yet, for anything, but I am assuming thats what it is yes, I will tell you for sure when I am in there, I just havent been in one yet to be able to tell you for sure. I am out of things to check engine wise for my problem so I guess it is time to turn to the fuel side of things.

Have you check the fuel pressure yet? And do it under a load, that may tell you alot. Check with Kerry on the gasket thing. There is always a gasket under the snap ring so that it will seal the vacuum in the EVAP system. Should be able to remove and reuse. If you are going to go to that extent as to pull the back seat and fuel pump out, you might as well replace the gasket, it is just rubber after all, and also replace that sock. They are cheap enough to justify just replacing them. That car should have an external fuel filter though. A clogged filter/screen should not make a difference the way the car runs hot or cold. That is usually something electrical, ECU, sensor, ignition, something because once it is clogged it will not become unclogged or vise versa just because the car warms up or cools down, you know.

i would buy a new filter. the ring is a hit or miss thing. I have done some and the gaseket is fine. but I have done some and the gasket is streched. its not that expensive. a new gasket is always perfered.

what type of problem are you having? did you put bad gas, or is the car hesitating? also be careful not to strip the bolts that hold down the lid to get in there.

Chef, how did this turn out, or have you done anything with it?

Did you ever end up doing this?
