I have a 2006 Mazda speed6. I was wondering if anyone has every had any problems with water getting in the spark plug holes making the coils short out. I bought the car about three weeks ago from a dealership in Georgia where I live. They pressure washed the motor before putting it on the lot. About two weeks after I bought the car I was driving down the road when it started to hesitate in 5th gear around 2500-3000 rpm. I took it to a mazda dealership and they said that it came back saying multiple misfires. They told me that all the coils and spark plugs needed to be replaced because water was down in the holes where it sat and the coil and spark plug had rust all over it. Well it was still under warrenty at the other dealership and mazda said they would not fix it because it was the other dealership's fault. So I took it back where I bought it and they where suppose to clean all the water out and they said that they would put penetrating oil on the wire connector that hooks the spark plug to the coil. Well here I am a week later and it is starting to hesitate again but now in thrid gear. If anyone has some advice or knows anything about this stuff please let me know. I called them today and they want me to take the car back to mazda but I know they won't fix it. What should I do. My husband is going to take the coils and spark plugs out tomorrow and look at them before we take it mazda. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forum. Do you have first hand knowledge of the dealer pressure washing the engine bay? If so, can you prove it to them? I would think it should be an open and shut case, if they did it, they are responsible.

They told me that they did pressure wash the motor. But they said that the coils and spark plugs did not need to be replaced that they were fine and that the mazda dealership was just trying to get them to pay the bill for stuff that was not needed. When we called the dealership that we bought the car from they told me to take it to another mazda dealership so that way they did not know the situation about the car and see if that dealership would replace tham. The guy from the first mazda dealership told me that if they replace all of the coils then mazda would want to come look at the car to find out why they were being replaced then mazda would find out that they were in water and then it would not be covered under warrenty. So I have a feeling that I am going to have to pay for this out of pocket.

If the 1st dealer is the one that hosed the car down, then the dealer is responsible, not Mazda. Lets face if they washed the engine down, and it is not running right now then the dealer is responsible. If it is not the coils, then it is something else causing the problem. Stay strong, and keep climbing the ladder at the dealer with words of disgust about what is going on.

Take it back to the dealer again and tell them you want the stuff replaced. They did their thing to "fix" it and it didnt work out so replacement parts are in need! Be firm about it! Mention that already tried to "fix it" and now that the issue is back have them replace it.

Just mention that you would like a corporate email so that you can send a letter of what is goin on to see if the corporate office has any other options. they normally dont want anyone contacting corporate on a negative basis. It will get things done. Just got my wheels redone cuz some dip**** scuffed the rims with steel wool to put on balance weights. they didnt wanna fix it so i wrote the letter and a week later my wheels are powder coated black.
