I am reaching out to the StreetUnit people and the Community because of an order I recently placed. The SU RED Edition Cobb SRI recently came out, and I was on the Pre-Order list. I am upset because I bought this thinking that..."Okay, I can have an all red setup now because StreetUnit came out with this product" but when I opened the box Lo and Behold...red Silicone, but BLUE filter. So naturally I got upset. I called up Mark at StreetUnit and complained, and he explained to me that because the Blue filter comes with the package they cannot simply replace it for the RED filter, because that is how it comes. Also, if you choose the K&N filter it will cost an extra 45 dollars. So he explained to me that if I choose the K&N red filter option I would end up with Two(2) filters. One Red/One Blue. I am upset because I thought in my head that the purpose of this RED edition was so the engine bay could be aesthetically pleasing in an all red setup. I do not want a blue and red filter, and I do not understand why if I order the Red K&N I will have to pay extra to get it, and I will get the unneeded blue one as well. I want to make it clear that I am not calling out Mark or anything because he explained everything in a very calm manner even though I was a little ticked. The day the SRI's went out to ship, this picture was posted on the site...

So naturally, I thought that it came with that spiffy Red filter, because when I pre-ordered it, it didn't have the option for a K&N Red filter, just the color of the silicone and the color of the prefilter. So I assumed it came in Red which was my mistake...

Basically my argument is that...Why can't you simply swap out the Blue filter for a Red one and ship that one out like that? I understand that the COBB SRI come as a "package" as is. But StreetUnit managed to swap out the Blue silicone COBB tube that it originally came with and put a Red SU one and they can't do the same for the filter?? You have to basically pay an additional 45 dollars to get the RED filter? And/Or go out of your way to find out the dimensions of the filter so you can order one from K&N yourself? That does not make sense to me...

Please tell me if I am being unreasonable, or if my argument is fair...because I am a little upset right now...If I AM being unreasonable, I guess I will just have to hunt for the red K&N filter once I get the dimensions from StreetUnit.

Edit: Also, if the case is that the Blue Filter comes as a "complete package," why can't you just replace it with the Red K&N one and sell the Extra Blue that you replaced as a replacement filter, which would actually make StreetUnit a profit of $5 as SU is selling them at $50 dollars right now...
Compared to the K&N which is selling for $45...

I see you are bumping this... What do you want people to say here? You know that the best way to resolve this is calling SU directly and resolving this.. whats the point here? what do you want done?

Opinions...solutions...

I mean I called...I guess I just wasn't satisfied. Ideally I would want to trade the Blue filter for the Red one, but I called and that's not possible. So I'm just frustrated and venting...hoping that someone will help...that's the point I guess.

It is never a good idea to call somewhere and try to get an issue resolved when one is upset and is not getting the response one wants. I would tell you to wait a day and cool off, call and speak to Cullen and discuss the matter like adults.

The recent long term unavailability with the Cobb SRI slowed the progress on our kits (colors, filters, prefilters, etc). Until we have everything set in stone (which should be soon), the website will show our current options available with the kit. Seeing most enthusiasts usually want their products as soon as possible, we are shipping our kits with the current product options to satisfy MAZDASPEEDERS cutthroat demand!

As far as the issue with blue filters and red silicone goes, future solutions will include black (maybe even red and blue) Filter Wraps (prefilter to combat dirt, dust, and water) and Red, Black, and Blue Filters. Right now, our aggreement with Cobb doesn't include swapping out the Cobb Blue Filter with a Red K&N Filter. Cobb's name is on the kit so we do work with them on the kits.

Yeah...partly why I didn't call Mark back again...

or just............dont install it and sell the cobb filter in the marketplace as a backup for someone and use the money toward a red one with the cash you made off it :clap2:

Yes it would likely be cheaper then getting it directly from the manufacturer.

Hey Toprock dont dispair I had the same issue, but also ordered a prefilter in red which i waited and waited for but never got! I searched the internet and found a company called Outwears on the web that you guessed make prefilters for a bunch of aplications. The part # that fits the cobb filter is 20-1692-03 and specify red. After putting it on you cant tell what color the filter is underneath! Good Luck
