Chicano's question is:

Which is a better all around vehicle?

EVO VIII or EVO IX?

I agree, 9 is all around better. I believe what ever negatives they had with the 8, they fixed with the 9. I hear that southcoast mitsu have great deals on them. I heard it on evolutionm.net

the 9 has a nicer exhaust and all the differential stuff that the 8 doesnt have.also a bigger turbo. the 8 wont do 11's on stock turbo.

We have seneral people in town that have run 11's on the stock EVO VIII turbo. One that has done it on pump. Although yes it is easier with a bigger turbo.

Actually Scott ran 11.7 on the stock turbo and I believe his latest record is 10.9 on a stock VIII turbo.

I test drove the 9 with same mods as my 8 has and the 9 seemed sluggish and very non responsive compared to my 8....I vote 8. I still like the 9 for styling.

I am telling ya that the evo 8 can run 11's my buddy has the 8 and it does it all day long! he has some upgrades not that many but some. he also is bout to get a buschar crate motor and 200 shot of spray so he will be well below 11's :) I would kill to have his car and have a blast when I drive it! go evo 8! but I got to say I like the look of the 9 looks a lil meaner!

Buddy down at work has the 9. Impressed with the performance, but not the reliability. He is the process of having it bought back by Mits. under the lemon law.

what has the problems been?

The problem was most every time he would hit the brake pedal the car would rev to about 3200 rpm. Had it back to the dealer 3 or 4 times and even the tech they flew in could not figure it out. Some of the big dealer malls around here have stopped carrying Mits. I don't know why.

im still a fan of the IIIV's over the IX's. its a lighter car, and a bit smaller. then again, i like the earlier versions the most, (III-VI are my favs) but im biased as i drive a lightweight car, and value the flickability of less weight over a car with very high limits, but with less transitional response. im also not a huge fan of computer controlled components, as i like pure mechanical solutions to a problem over electronics (so call me oldschool) also, the more refined a car gets the more of its appeal is lost to me. there is something about early gen cars that is typically lost in subsequent generations. take the eclipse for example- the first gen was just a raw performer, the second gen was nicer and still not bad, but the third gen was just not the same type of performer, and i can't even stand the 4th gen. im not nocking the evo for losing its feel- hell, i have only driven the IIIV anyway, but i think id prefer an earlier gen if i were to get one.

I can vote for the X? I'm biased, but like the new SWAC a lot....and for those that hate...you can turn it 100% off when you want too....just not on the fly. :(
