Prosport boost gauge off by -4
I'm just curious if anyone has had an issue with their prosport boost gauge. When my car is off but the key is in the on position the needle on the gauge sits at -4 when it should be at 0. I've been told it's altitude but I know a lot of people that run this and it's fine. By the way I live in Salt Lake City, UT. I've also been told it's a sending unit issue and that the gauge is just faulty. The gauge is an electronic one but not the premium one. It's like the needle just isn't centered right. If it is the altitude issue I'll be fine with it but if it's a problem with the sender or gauge I want it fixed. Other than that the gauge reads good when boosting if you add the 4lbs it is off haha. Any suggestions or similar issues would be nice to hear. Thanks.

Do you mean the sending unit or the gauge? I know it's a dumb ? I'm just making sure I read it right haha.
Here's what it looks like with the car off but the key in the on position.

I have seen this before with a autometer gauge. If you wired in the power to an ACC power source then that could be casuing this. When the ignition goes into the start position to start the car it cuts power to the accesories during the start cycle and that would cause the gauge to reset and take a new baseline for 0 however the engine is already moving and causing a bad reading. Try connecting the power for the gauge directly to the battery (fused of course and only for testing) and see if you notice a difference. Other than that if it still doesnt work ... its most likely faulty.
I hope this helps.

We tried another power source and it was the same I appreciate the suggestion though. Now I just need to find out if it's the altitude like prosport is claiming it is or a faulty gauge. Either way prosport just wants me to buy a mechanical one and I'm not going to do that when this ones all wired up haha.

your gauge is bad. it has become mis-aligned due to wear and tear type use, it isnt uncommon at all.
I would send it out.

Hopefully they don't make me send back all the wiring and just let me send in the actual gauge, I really don't want to pull everything back out and then re-install it. I hope this resolves it though thanks for the input.

they likely will just have you send the gauge. contact your vendor from who you got it from and see what they ask of you.

I talked with prosport again for a bit today and they think that the sending unit was not calibrated right so they are saying that's def the issue. Hopefully this fixes the problem wish me luck haha. It's gonna piss me off if it's the actual gauge though cause they're saying there is no way, that it has to be the sending unit.

could be, but I would think all along it would have been off if infact it was your sending unit.

They are sending me a sending unit so hopefully that takes care of it if not then I'll send in the actual gauge. I mean it's got to be one of those two things so I'll take there advice on what to try first I guess. They are being really cool about it though. I hope it's the sending unit so it's done on the first try haha.

After talking to prosport 4 or 5 times they have told me that for sure it is the altitude and that some senders are affected by the altitude and some aren't at all. So I'm either going to go back to a defi or just switch to a mechanical gauge. I just don't want to deal with sending stuff back and forth if it's not for sure going to fix the problem. They were really helpful though I guess there still is companies with good customer service.
